Dr. Eugene C Scott
Eugene grew up in southwest Denver, hanging out with his family, especially his dad, where Chatfield Reservoir now stands, riding horses, stringing barbed wire, and dodging rattlesnakes. He claims it was fun.
God was not much a part of Eugene’s life until after his father suddenly passed away. Thankfully Jesus eventually broke through his self-destruction and started him on a journey of healing, forgiveness, grace and discovery. They are still walking that path together and God is very much a part of Eugene’s life, especially since God maneuvered him into being a pastor. Now Eugene delights in reaching people for Christ through community.
Eugene and his wife, Dee Dee, have been friends since both were in junior high. Marriage only deepened that friendship. They share a love for God, bottomless friendships, hiking, the outdoors, reading, and especially their three children: Katie, Brendan, and Emmy and one grandchild, Addi.
Communicating Christ through story is a passion for Eugene. He loves to tell stories. He is also a writer with publications in various magazines and journals. Eugene has earned degrees from the University of Colorado (psychology), a Masters of Divinity from Denver Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary, with a focus on using story as a vehicle for truth telling. Eugene was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1990 and joined the Evangelical Presbyterian Church in 2001.
In the past thirty years Eugene has served mainly in large churches. He has served at Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church and St James Presbyterian Church in the Denver area. Then he served Second Presbyterian in Bloomington, IL and Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian in Tulsa, OK. Before answering the call to plant The Neighborhood Church he was pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church of the Vail Valley.
